As the Bertha-Hewitt Bears embark on the 2020 volleyball season they do it with several experienced players returning to the varsity team.  They did lose two exceptional players to graduation in 4-year starters Kaija Weishalla (Libero) and Mikayla Hinzmann (Setter).

“They were two big losses for us at two main positions.  They were both long time fixtures in the lineup,” explained Head Coach Karla Weishalla, now in her fifth year in the position.  “Experience is definitely one of our strengths as we have several girls with multiple seasons under their belts and this should play in our favor.  Serving was a strength for us last year and I expect the same this year.  Also, we have a strong back row digging core.  These girls like to compete.”

Returning starters and letter winners include seniors Brandi Warren (Outside Hitter), Jaylee Baker (Middle Hitter) and Mya Sawyer (Back Row Utility), and juniors Skylar Bertram (Setter/Outside Hitter) and Hailey Hudalla (Outside Hitter).  Freshman setter Ava Bauch will step into the lineup as well.

Weishalla will be assisted by Jessica Proehl (JV), Brooke Zastrow (C Team), Angie Hurtig (Junior High) and Emily Erlandson (Junior High).  Senior Riley Kneisl will serve as a student coach.
