Fergus Falls hosted Sauk Rapids-Rice in a makeup boys’ soccer game on Tuesday night at the Otter Stadium Field.  The Storm wound up winning the final regular season game by the score of 4-2.

“Sauk Rapids-Rice scored 2 goals in the first half, both kind of dirty goals,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Joel Heikes. “We controlled the first 20 minutes of the first half and had more shots on net but they just would not go. Ian Stumbo stopped a penalty shot in the first half. In the second half they came out and scored fairly quickly then they had another opportunity at a penalty shot and they got that one so it is 4-0. With about 10 minutes to go in the game one of their mids tried to start a fight with Jack Uhrich and was red carded.  Jack was yellow carded for his involvement and this fired up our team. We went down and scored on a very nice cross from Cole Zierden to Dom Aguilar. Dom got his head on it and scored. We then brought it right back down to our offensive end and were awarded a penalty kick. Matthew Niblock took the penalty shot and brought us to within 2. With only 4 minutes to go in the game we kept the pressure on but that was the end of the scoring. Overall we played a very aggressive game and controlled the ball better than we had previously, we just had a difficult time finishing and when the ball got into our defensive end we panicked a couple times. Ian Stumbo stumbled on one of the goals which he should have stopped so that was frustrating to him. But he came back and blocked a penalty shot so that was huge and got him back in the game.”

The game schedule for Thursday at Rocori has been canceled and the Otter boys’ will open the post season with a 7:00pm contest in Bemidji on Monday, October 12.  Fergus Falls was the sixth seed in the Section, while Bemidji received the third seed.
