Lemke returns to M State as assistant basketball coach

Former M State Spartan and Fergus Falls Otter Isaiah Lemke returns to the Spartans as lead assistant coach for the men’s basketball team during the upcoming season.

Lemke joins Head Coach Shawn Sorenson on the sidelines for the Spartans, whose season is scheduled to begin in January.

Lemke played for two seasons and was a sophomore captain at M State, where he earned his AA degree. During high school in Fergus Falls, Lemke played varsity football and varsity basketball for four years, where he helped lead the Otters to a second-place finish in the Class AAA tournament during his senior year.

As M State’s lead assistant coach, Lemke will focus on strength/conditioning workouts for players, scouting and game plans, and recruiting. His previous experience includes coaching the boys and girls West Central United basketball teams in Alexandria since 2018, scouting for M State during the 2019 season and working as a basketball counselor at Camp Laurel South in Casco, Maine.

He currently is enrolled at Minnesota State University Moorhead and majoring in Physical and Health Education with a minor in Coaching. Lemke also works with school-age students in the Fargo elementary schools through YMCA of Cass/Clay Counties.

As a member of the Minnesota State system, M State serves more than 7,500 students in credit courses each year in more than 80 career and liberal arts programs online and at its campuses in Detroit Lakes, Fergus Falls, Moorhead and Wadena. By partnering with communities, the college also provides workforce development services and other responsive training programs.
