With third year starting quarterback Peyton Rondestvedt (663 passing yards, 6 TD passes, 368 rushing yards, 3 rushing TDs) and top receiver Zach Shaw (16 receptions, 213 yards, 4 TDs) returning, the offensive firepower of the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines is looking good for the 2020 season.

“We gained a lot of experience in a very tough 2019 season,” said Head Coach Kyle Petermeier.  “We have key returners at the skill positions which will be a great help.  Athleticism and experience at the skill positions and especially at quarterback will be a strength for us, but our lack of size and experience up front on both sides of the ball is something that will be hard to overcome.”

Seniors Kade Woods (WR/DB), Brayden Kleinke (OL/LB) and Aiden Larson (WR/DB), and junior Josh Dykhoff (WR/LB) are also returning starters.

Key newcomers are senior Owen Guo (RB/LB), juniors Devon Kiser (WR/DB), Isaac Christianson (WR/LB) and Jaeden Carpenter (OL/DL), sophomores Shade Bounds (RB/LB) and Aiden Sutherland (RB/LB), and freshman Gunnar Olson (OL/DL).

Rondestvedt, Woods and Larson will serve as team captains.

“Section6AA is a tough section with Osakis returning as the section champion, along with runner-up Pillager,” stated Coach Petermeier.  “West Central Area/Ashby returns key players and Staples-Motley is coming off a terrific season.  Long Prairie-Grey Eagle and WDC round out the six team section.”

Keith Ferris, Ed Sugg and Norm Gallant will serve as assistants to Petermeier.
