After a scoreless first half the Alexandria girls’ soccer team put three goals on the board in the second half to hand the Fergus Falls Otters a 3-1 loss on Thursday night.  It was the Otters fourth straight loss and dropped their record to 3-6-1.  The Cardinals improved to 6-1-2 with the victory.

“We had a couple of chances but did not convert, otherwise Alexandria dominated offensive possession in the first half, but Brynn Walter, making her first varsity start was amazing in goal, giving us a chance heading into the second half,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.

Walter played another excellent half of soccer in the second half, making countless quality saves, however, Alexandria popped one through when Aubrey Kosters slid the ball past a diving Walter to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.  They quickly followed up with a goal by Alex Egebraaten off a corner kick, making it a 2-0 game.  Megan Ewert pulled the Otters back within a goal when she crashed the net and placed the ball in the right corner.  “That was Megan’s first varsity goal and it came at a great time,” noted Jurgens.  “Unfortunately, we gave up our second corner of the game and that gave Alexandria another two goal lead.”  Molly Panther notched the goal for the Cardinals.

“The girls’ played hard,” added Jurgens.  “Alexandria has a great team.  With Svea Smestad out we are forced to play a more defensive style which limits our offensive opportunities so we need to play patient soccer and cash in on our opportunities.”
