The Fergus Falls girls’ tennis team traveled to Moorhead for their final regular season match-up against the Spuds on Thursday.  The Spuds narrowly beat the 4-3 just two days ago, and with some different winners Thursday night, edged them 4-3 once again.

“Our wins tonight in singles came from Madison Anderson at second and Amber Anderson at fourth,” reported Head Coach Jamie Lill.  “Madison started slow tonight and found herself in a quick hole.  The conditions were not ideal for tennis to say the least with the cold temps and the extra breeze, but both teams had to adjust to that.  Madison found a way to steady the ship after adjusting to the conditions and went on to win the first set 7-5 before cruising through the second 6-1.  Amber Anderson found herself in a pretty tight match from the get-go.  Amber found more of a groove and hit well into the wind.  It was a battle the whole way through, but Amber did a nice job of not getting rattled by the conditions.”

In doubles action, Ava Weber and Leila Nasri were given the tall task of taking on Moorhead´s new number one doubles team that consisted of their usual top singles player and a very veteran first doubles player.  “These girls hit big, place balls well and are powerful,” stated Coach Lill.  “Ava and Leila hung around with them and played a really tough second set, but dropped the match in the end.  Hannah Prody and Ashtyn Lill got our lone doubles win today against an impressive duo.  One of the players usually finds herself in first doubles and has a lot of pace, which Hannah and Ashtyn handled well.  It was a nice win for our girls.  Third doubles was also a very tight and exciting match.  Mia Marsh and Mackenzie Krava doubled up for us tonight.  They played smart tennis and used the wind to their advantage with their lob game.”  They dropped a nail biter 7-6(4), 6-4.

“The Spuds edged us out again tonight in a close match,” concluded Lill.  “It´s interesting the way things shook out for us to end this regular season and head into post-season next Tuesday as we just played the Spuds in back-to-back matches this week and will likely see them again on Tuesday in the first round of postseason play.  They got us 4-3 both nights.  Both nights we had other matches within our reach.  Our girls are looking forward to the challenge of seeing them again on Tuesday.  It¨s playoff time... let´s go!!”
