Perham Cross Country Teams in Action at Hawley

The Perham boys’ cross country team recorded a perfect score of 15 to win the Hawley Invitational on Thursday, and the Yellowjacket girls’ were second, five points behind Hawley.

Jakob McCleary returned from mono and won the boys’ race. Carson Hespe, Micah Thompson, Bjorn Anderson, and Carter Flatau (taking a wrong turn and running an extra 30 meters, came back and passed the number one runner from Detroit Lakes for the perfect score). Caden Doll, Aiden Kennedy, and Elijah Morris rounded out Perham’s top 8 runners.  Detroit Lakes was second with 51 points and Hawley took third with 67.

Hawley put up a score of 26 and Perham scored 31 points in a tight girls’ race.  “Kaia Starzl, Mya Morris and Gracie Morris gave us a great 1-2-3 punch with all 3 finishing within 10-12 seconds of each other,” reported Perham Head Coach Jeff Morris. “Returning to the lineup was Aspen Rhode and along with Quincy Anderson rounded out the top 5 with great races. Liz Birkeland, Mia Lung and Lauryn Rustad rounded out the top 8 Perham runners. The cool part today is we put 7 runners ahead of Hawley's # 5 runner.”

Hawley had the champion, Lily Olson, runner-up, Faith Rustad and fourth place finisher, Lily Peterson.  Starzl was third, Gracie Morris fifth and Mya Morris sixth for Perham.

Perham returns to action next Wednesday, September 30th against Staples and Pequot Lakes, then the following week Perham will host the HOL Conference Championships on Tuesday, October 6th.
