Wyatt Blomseth and Hunter Burnside led the Spartans with rounds of 81, two strokes behind medalist Andrew Martinez (79) of Southwest Tech.  Bennett Reese of Tech also had an 81.

Grant Inniger (83), Jon Vall (91) and Drew Schwann (93) rounded out the scoring for M State.  Mikey Vall turned in a 96, golfing as an individual in the tournament.

“It’s always a pleasure to compete against Southwest Tech and their strong program,” noted Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “It was a day of survival and Maple Valley Golf Course was the winner today.  Our players fought hard to shoot the best score they could but the combination of rock hard and small greens made the conditions extremely difficult.  The team is working hard and know some great golf is on the way.  We look forward to coming home for the Spartan Invite this weekend.”

On the women’s side, Sara Butler shot a 99 for M State.

“It was great to see Sara have her best round of the season,” added Retzlaff.  “She has improved a lot in a short period of time.”

M State will next compete in two single day events at home on Sunday and Monday.  The Spartan Invite at Pebble Lake Golf Course will begin at 11:00am on Sunday, while the M State triangular will tee off at 9:00am Monday.
