Carter Justesen of the Spartans finished second with a 148 (76-72).  His 72 was the low round of the tournament on Monday.  He was followed by Wyatt Blomseth with a 157 (75-82), Hunter Burnside with a 165 (86-79), Grant Inniger with a 168 (86-82) and John Vall with a 168 (83-85).

Drew Schwann, golfing as an individual, fired a two-day total of 156 (82-74).  His 74 on Monday was the third best round of the day.  Mike Vall had a 189 (98-91) and Canaan Kugler a 192 (97-95), as they also competed individually.

“It was a solid start for our team against some excellent competition,” reported Spartan Head Coach Jason Retzlaff.  “We had a lot of good rounds derailed by a few bad holes.  Once we take care of that we should be able to post some quality team scores.  The conditions were tougher on Monday and it was nice to see we were the only team that improved from their Sunday team score.  Carter played so well and did a great job leading us.  He was in contention for medalist honors until the end.  Drew also gave us a great round today as an individual as he putted the ball extremely well.”

The Spartans will next compete in a dual meet with Southwest Tech next Tuesday (September 22) at Maple Valley Golf Club in Rochester.
