As the M State Golf Team begins their season they do so with several restrictions due to Covid-19.  All players from last years’ team were not charged a year of eligibility so Wyatt Blomseth (Detroit Lakes, 2018-2019 All American) and Carter Justensen (Hawley, 2018-2019 Region XIII Medalist) are listed as returning sophomores on the squad.  Due to NJCAA regulations regarding Covid-19, the fall season schedule was shorted with the first day of practice being held September 8.  The fall schedule will consist of 4 competitions and 2 scrimmages.  The Region XIII Championship meet has been moved to the Spring.

Returning freshmen included Grant Inniger (Barnesville, 2018-2019 Region XIII Medalist) and Jon Vall (Hillcrest).

Freshmen newcomers are Hunter Burnside (Detroit Lakes, 8th place finish at 2019 Class AA State Tournament), Drew Schwann (Detroit Lakes), Canaan Kugler (Underwood) and Mike Vall (Hillcrest).

Sara Butler (Coon Rapids) joins the Spartans as the only Women’s team member.

“While there is nothing normal about the circumstances this season, we are very thankful to begin practice and have the opportunity to compete this Fall,” said Head Coach Jason Retzlaff (17th year).  “The last six months put in perspective what a privilege it is to play competitive sports and we are grateful to have golf this fall.  We have an exciting combination of returners and newcomers that has the potential to be a very good team.  It will be fun to watch this team progress this fall with our longer term sights set on the Region Championship.”

The Spartan Men’s Golf team in 2019-20 qualified for the NJCAA National Championship, but the tournament was cancelled due to covid-19.

Jeff Haukos returns as Assistant Coach for a sixteenth season.

The Spartans open the season with the two-day Jimmy Invite at Jamestown Country Club on September 13 and 14.
