The Hillcrest Lutheran Academy Boys Soccer team was defeated by the Crookston Pirates 3-0 on Thursday in Crookston.

The Pirates tallied early, just two minutes into the contest on a corner kick goal mishandled by Freshman Comet Keeper, Matt Knutson.  The Pirates added two more goals in the second half at 48 minutes and 60 minutes.  The Comets had a few good opportunities to score during the game, but, could not finish on these opportunities.

The Comets have a young, unseasoned team, putting several younger players in varsity roles.  Freshman striker/midfielder, Abram Ness, has the most varsity experience on the team this year.  “This is great experience for the younger players and will pay dividends in the future,” noted Head Coach Rod Jensen. The team has three senior football players starting, Captains Zeke Ihrke and Trey Carls, along with Ben ChristensonDoulton Royce, also new to the game, is also a senior learning the game.

The Comets now 0-2, travel to East Grand Forks to take on the Greenwave on Monday.

“It will be fun to see how we improve throughout the season and measure our performance improvement in each contest,” added Jensen.
