A combination of a smothering defense and an explosive offense carried the Pelican Rapids boys' soccer team to their third straight shutout victory on Thursday as they handed Detroit Lakes a 6-0 loss at the David Brown Soccer Field in Pelican Rapids.

Senior captain Khadar Ibrahim got the scoring started just four minutes into the game and Abdi Isse added a goal on a penalty kick at the 26 minute mark and the Vikings led 2-0 at the half.  Ibrahim's goal was setup by a pass from Mohamed Ahmed, and the assist on the penalty kick goal goes to the player who was fouled, Khadar Aden.

Pelican Rapids increased their lead to 4-0 when Ibrahim scored a pair of goals two minutes apart in the first four minutes of the second half.  The first goal of the half was a header off a beautiful pass from Jesus Moreno , who also assisted on the second goal.

A goal eight minutes in from Isse pushed the lead to 5-0 and Mohamed Ahmed concluded the scoring with a goal in the 55th minute with an assist from Daniel Urbano.

"We really put together a great second half after a rough first half," commented Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Peter.  "Although ahead 2-0 at halftime, we had allowed the home fans and our opponent to distract us and dictate much of the action in the first half and moved away from our identity a bit, but the boys adjusted extremely well in the second half and showed the quality they possess.  Very happy with the whole team performance today."

The Vikings will host East Grand Forks on Saturday afternoon.
