Fergus Falls boys’ cross country coach Derek Meyer is in his fifth season with the Otters.  As the Otters get their season underway, there are a lot of question marks as to what things will look like as the season progresses, but Meyer is excited for what the season may hold.

“This season is going to be great,” said Meyer.  “We have an opportunity to race and compete.  In the spring of last school year we shut everything down and the kids only got a week of practice.  They have had to adapt to many changes over the last few months.  Many know that they cannot take our season for granted.  Even as we continue to practice, rules and guidelines change weekly and daily.  We are still unsure of Conference and Section championship opportunities at this time, but we will train as if we have that ahead of us.”

Seniors Kolsen Papon and Mason Olson, juniors Conrad Lobb, Tucker Rowlan and Luke Schroeder, and sophomores Aiden Lindgren and Oliver Thorson are all returning letter winners.

Key varsity newcomers will be eighth-graders Jack Welde, Jaden Miller, Logan Bredenberg and Alex Burrows.

Meyer says Bemidji and St. Cloud Apollo are the teams to look out for on the Otters schedule.

Niki Welde is the head girls’ coach at Fergus Falls and Joshua Scharnberg will serve as assistant coach in the program.
