The 2020 season will be a season like no other.  Hillcrest Lutheran Academy boys’ soccer coach Rod Jensen heads into the season with no Norwegian exchange students on his roster.  The Covid-19 Pandemic did not allow the Norwegian students from the Danielsen School in Norway to participate in the exchange program with Hillcrest this year.  That means a lot of roster spots are open.  Filling some of those spots will be several student-athletes who participated in football in previous years, but will now be a part of the soccer team since football is not being played this fall in Minnesota.

“With all the new players to the game, our goal is to improve throughout the shortened season,” said Jensen.  “We will be teaching some football players how to play soccer this year!”

Senior attacker Zeke Ihrke will serve as captain in his first soccer season.  Other seniors on the squad are Ben Christenson (Midfield), Dalton Royce (Defense), Trey Carl (Defense) and Evan Olstad.  Juniors on the roster are Zayne Weinrich and Cayden Fischer (Midfield).  Cole Peterson (Defense) and Juin Moon (Midfield) are the two sophomores on the team.  Freshmen Gabe Swedenburg (Midfield), Abram Ness (Forward), Soren Floden (Defense) and Matthew Knutson (Goalie), and seventh-grader Drew Fischer round out the varsity roster.

Nathan Jensen will once again assist his father and former Fergus Falls Otters Head Coach Steven Ness has also joined the coaching staff.

Coach Jensen says Bemidji, Alexandria, St. Cloud Apollo and Pelican Rapids will be in the hunt in Section 8A.
