Brainerd scored 3 goals in each half on Thursday night as they spoiled the home opener for Fergus Falls with a 6-0 girls' soccer victory at the Otter Stadium Field.

"We played a great team tonight," acknowledged Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  "We wanted to try our best to take them on straight up.  We chose not to play in a defensive shell and they showed us some areas that we will improve on throughout the season.  Brainerd is at the top of the conference every year and as I mentioned they highlighted our weaknesses.  Now we learn from that and get better."

Brainerd had 11 shots on goal and Fergus Falls managed just one.

"The film on this game will be tremendous help to our development as a team," added Jurgens.  "The wins and losses will take care of themselves. At this time of year it's about getting better and that's what we will do.  I though Desi Maack played a solid game tonight and was very much a bright spot for the team."

The Fergus Fall JV team lost 8-1 with Lexi Metcalf scoring the goal and Marilyn Karsnia earning an assist.

"Marilyn played a fantastic game back at defense," noted Coach Jurgens.  "Brynn Walter had the opportunity to play goalie in her first high school game."
