Fergus Falls and Alexandria both opened their boys' soccer seasons on Thursday night with the Otters falling to Brainerd 3-0 and Alexandria losing a tough 1-0 contest to Sartell.

Fergus Falls struggled to mount any offensive pressure throughout the game, but their defensive play kept the game within striking distance until late in the second half.  Sophomores Kasey Eggen and Joey Johnson, teamed with senior Jack Urich to form a strong defense in front of goalkeeper Ian Stumbo, who came up with several big saves in the net.

Brainerd took a 1-0 lead at the 28:13 mark of the opening half when Adam Klecker converted a penalty kick.

The score remained 1-0 until the 15:55 mark of the second half when Sean Engelstad blasted a goal past Stumbo, making it 2-0.  The Warriors increased their lead to 3-0 on an Isaiah Peterson goal with 3:08 left in the game.

Brainerd was awarded 13 corner kicks on the night, but failed to convert any of their opportunities into goals.

No additional information was provided on the Alexandria game.
