Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the Central Lakes Conference has scaled back their girls’ soccer schedule.  Conference members will only play eleven games, all against CLC opponents.  Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens says, “Each night is going to be a battle, but we feel the team will be up to the challenge.  Our expectation of our team will be to compete hard in every game and to give ourselves an opportunity to win.”

Jurgens will rely on the experience of his returning seniors and juniors with varsity experience, such as Anna Anderson, Ellie Anderson, Piper Andrews, Hope Goepferd and keeper Svea Smestad.

Key up and comers include Maddie Hulter, Vanessa Vaughn, Yana Prischmann, Megan Tosset and Talia Nelson.

“The biggest difference in the schedule is the amount of games we lost outside our conference,” noted Jurgens.  “The biggest difference in our team is we are a year older, stronger and more experienced.  It should be an exciting season and I know the girls are ready to go.  We have the largest team we have had in the history of Otter Girls Soccer with 51 athletes joining the team.  We have no idea what the other teams are going to present to us, but we know our size and maturity should keep us in every game we play.”

Jurgens says Brainerd, Sartell and Alexandria are traditionally the top teams in the conference.

Assistant Coaches will be Paul Hicks, Sara Delaney, Luke Johnston and Amber Hovland.

“Social distancing has been significant for practice,” added Jurgens.  “Taking the temperatures of girls prior to practice is obviously new to the coaching staff and players, but we are willing to do these things if it allows us the opportunity to play.”
