The Fergus Falls 19U baseball team traveled to Detroit Lakes on Saturday for one 9 inning game. “With no playoffs at the SR.19 U level, I worked out a deal with DL to play for a ‘Traveling Trophy’,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Trevor Larson

Fergus Falls won the game, 13-3.

Brock Kotschevar started on the mound and threw well,” stated Larson. “He had to battle a light mist for the first 3 innings, and a damp and sticky mound as well.” Kotschevar (6IP, 3R, 1ER, 2H, 5BB, 5K) picked up the win. Dustin Duenow, Shane Wahlund, and Arik Heacox all threw a scoreless inning in relief of Kotschevar.

Carter Thielke (2-3, 3R, 3RBI), Nic Pearson (3-4, 2R, 3RBI), Abel Aho (2-5, 2RBI), and Jaydon Ollila (1-3, 2RBI) led the offense for Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls scored 2 runs in the top of the first with Thielke taking a lead-off walk and scoring on a wild pitch. Pearson walked as well and came home on a 2 out error.

Fergus Falls added 5 runs in the second inning to extend their lead to 7-0. Michael Wiederich, and Jaydon Ollila walked to start the inning, and Matt Scott was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Thielke doubled to score two, another DL error and three more walks put the score at 7-0.

DL clawed back into the game with single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings to make the game 7-3.

Fergus answered back with 3 runs of their own in the top half of the 6th. A one out single by Thielke, and Aho put runners on first and third. Nic Pearson doubled home both runners with a shot off the wall in left field.

Fergus would add runs in the 7th and 9th innings as well.

“It was a nice way to end our season,” noted Coach Larson. “It’s unfortunate that there wasn’t some sort of playoffs to be worked out for the boys this summer. The boys came a long way from the start of the year, I can’t thank them enough for their hard work. I want to thank the Super Seniors Nic Pearson and Jaydon Ollila for coming back and for being good leaders. We have a lot of seniors that are eligible to come back next year and I hope they do so. We also wish Mike Maanum well as he is a senior that isn’t eligible to come back next year. Lastly I want to thank my assistant coaches Tosten Mann, Ashwin Stratton, and Eric Salvesen.”
