“We started a little slow this year and that hurt us,” acknowledged Breckenridge Coach Kevin Hiedeman. “We were one win away from first place but we’ve been on a tear lately winning 6 in a row and outscoring our opponents 59-3.
Breckenridge outhit Hawley 15-3. Jeremy Stack, Carson Hought and Jack Aigner led the offensive charge with 3 hits apiece. Brayden Wahl and Max Johnson each had a couple hits and Connor Twidwell and Collin Roberts each had a hit.
“Defensively we’ve been solid,” noted Hiedeman, “tonight we only committed one error and had some nice plays in the field. Max Johnson made a nice defensive play on a ground ball up the middle from second base. Jeremy Stack made a great catch out in center field and Jake Wendorff made a huge bases loaded stop with two outs to shut Hawley down in the 6th inning.”
Cooper Yaggie got the nod on the mound throwing 4 innings, striking out 4 batters giving up no walks and no hits. Carter Haugen came in and pitch 1 2/3 innings striking out one, walking 2 batters and giving up 3 hits. Emmit Vig pitched the last 1 1/3 innings giving up no hits.
The official seeding will be Tuesday night and the tournament will start Thursday. Breckenridge hopes to get a first round bye and expect to play their first game Friday.
