The Fergus Falls Hurricanes won their home opener on Sunday at American Legion Field at DeLagoon Park, handing the Moorhead Mudcats 7-1 defeat.  Thomas Bosek, Mitch Porter and Darin Stanislawski (3IP, 3K, 0H) combined to hold the visitors to 7 hits, while stranding 10 runners.  Porter (4IP, 3K, 0BB, 5H, 0R) earned the victory.

The Hurricanes got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Alex Hensch led off with a walk, which was followed by a Jake Anderson single.  A double steal advanced the runners to second and third.  A clutch two-out single by Stanislawski plated Hensch with the first run of the ballgame.

A 3-run second upped the ‘Canes lead to 4-0.  Jack Hiedeman singles and Pete Gaustad doubled him to third base with one out.  Hensch then singled home Hiedeman and Jake Anderson knocked home Gaustad with a two-base hit.  Tosten Mann then delivered a sacrifice fly to bring Hensch home.

Moorhead scored their run in the top of the third on a sacrifice fly from Toby Sayles scoring Ty Severson who had led off the inning with a single and moved around to third base on a walk to Mason Penske and a single by Ben Swanson.

Three more Fergus Falls runs in the bottom of the fourth completed the scoring.  Gaustad led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Hensch.  A throwing error allowed Hensch to reach first and Gaustad to move up to third.  Jake Anderson singled home Gaustad and Hensch scored on a double by Mann.  Stanislawski drove home Anderson with a base hit but Mann was cut down at the plate.

Anderson (3-4, 2B, R, 2SB, 2RBI), Gaustad (3-4, 2B, 2R), Hensch (1-2, 3R, 2BB, SB) and Stanislawski (2-4, 2RBI) were the hitting leaders for Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls will host Pelican Rapids in a double header on Sunday, July 5, with the first game scheduled to begin at 3:30.
