With American Legion sponsored baseball being cancelled this summer, teams around the country are putting together independent schedules by age group.  The Fergus Falls Senior Legion team, playing as the 19U team, opened their season with a home game on Wednesday night, losing to the Wahpeton Senior babe Ruth team by the score of 7-5.

Mike Maanum started on the mound and went 2 2/3 innings, allowing all seven runs, none of which were earned.  Shane Wahlund pitched very well in relief, allowing just one hit in three innings.

Maanum pitched a scoreless first inning for Fergus Falls.  Abel Aho led off the bottom of the first with a lead-off single and came in to score the first run of the game on a ground out off the bat of Nic Pearson.  Three Fergus Falls errors led to the 7-run third inning that put Wahpeton ahead 3-1.

Fergus Falls answered with two runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to trim the Wahpeton lead to 7-5.  Fergus Falls loaded the bases in the sixth, but failed to score.

Brock Kotschevar (2-3, R, BB) led the offensive output for Fergus Falls.  Aho, Jaydon Ollila and Jack Culbertson added one hit each.

“We are playing in a Lakes Area League with Alexandria, Detroit Lakes, Moorhead and Perham,” explained Head Coach Trevor Larson.  “We are going to play an end of the year playoff tournament with no advancement.  I have an absolutely fantastic crew helping me out this year.  Tosten Mann is my assistant head coach.  I also have Eric Salveson, Ashwin Stratton and Nathan Zierden helping me out as volunteer assistants.”

Fergus Falls will travel to DGF on Thursday, June 25, for a double header starting at 5:30pm.
