The Fergus Falls Hurricanes placed fifth at the Elrosa Elite 8 Tournament over the weekend.  The ‘Canes opened the tourney with a 21 loss at the hands of the Freeport Black Sox on Saturday morning.  They then defeated the Cannon Falls Bears 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, putting them in the fifth place game Sunday afternoon.  Fergus Falls handled the New Munich Silverstreaks 10-4 in that game.

The Hurricanes and Black Sox were scoreless through five innings in the first game of the tournament.  Fergus Falls scored in the top of the sixth to take a 1-0 lead.  With one out Alex Hensch reached on an error and stole second base.  Jake Anderson delivered a single, however, Hensch was cut down at the plate with Anderson taking second base on the play.  Tosten Mann knocked in Anderson to get the ‘Canes on the board.  Freeport responded with a run in the bottom of the sixth.  A single and a walk put two runners on with no outs.  A throwing error on a pick-off attempt put runners on second and third.  With the infield in Fergus Falls recorded a pair of ground outs, however, a two-out single brought the tying run home.  A one out double and a two-out singled in the bottom of the seventh gave the Black Sox the 2-1 win.  Mitch Porter led the Hurricanes offensively, going 2-for-3 with a double.  Eric Salveson (5IP, 8K, 4BB, 2H, 0R) pitched five innings of shutout ball.  Jack Hiedeman (1.2IP, 1K, 2BB, 4H, 1ER) took the loss in relief.

Thomas Bosek came through with a 3-hit shutout in the ‘Canes 3-0 win over Cannon Falls.  Bosek struck out seven batters, walked one and hit a batter.  Alex Hensch (2-4, R) and Jake Anderson (3-4, 2B, 2RBI) were the top hitters for Fergus Falls.  The Hurricanes scored a run in the top of the first when Hensch singled to lead off, took second on a passed ball and scored on a double by Anderson.  They added a run in the second when Dan Revering led off with a base it, took second on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Stanislawski and scored on a 2-out single by Anderson.  Their third run of the game came in the third inning.  Bosek walked with one out, took second on a single by Alex Hexum and both runners advanced on an error which allowed Porter to reach first.  Bosek then scored on a sacrifice fly by Hiedeman.

In the fifth place game Porter (3IP, 3K, 0BB, 3H, 1ER) was the winning pitcher.  Sean McGuire (1.1IP, 2K, 1BB, 0H, 0R) also saw success on the mound, coming on in relief.  Offensive leaders were Hensch (2-5, 2R, RBI), Anderson (1-3, 3R, 2B, 2BB, 2RBI) and Mann (1-5, 2B, 4RBI), Bosek (4-4, 2B, BB, 2RBI).
