Frazee-Vergas high school senior Abigail Wothe was a member of the Hornets softball team, and unfortunately, she and her teammates were unable to bring closure to their high school athletic careers with one final spring season due to the Coronavirus pandemic.  Abigail will be continuing her softball career at UM-Morris next year as she plans to major in Secondary Education.

“This spring has been hard, but I tried to focus on the future and really prepare for my next year’s college season instead of dwelling on missing this season,” said Wothe.  “My advice to underclassmen is to not take it for granted.  Enjoy every moment because you won’t realize how much it means until it’s gone.”

“Abby is a strong, powerful pitcher that can dominate a game,” said Head Softball Coach Matt Bauer.  “She throws a few different pitches effectively and with good velocity.  Abby has been pitching at the varsity level since the 8th grade and works very hard at her craft.  She is very coachable and always looking to get better.  She has been a workhorse for the team and is going to be missed greatly.  I have been blessed to coach her for the last 8 years.   I know she is going to do great things at Morris and I'm looking forward to watching her take her game to the next level.”

Wothe recalled her top sports memories as hitting her first home run in eighth grade and pitching a shutout in the first playoff game of her sophomore season.  Her favorite high school subjects have been English and Band.

“Being involved in sports has impacted my life by giving me something to focus on and dedicate myself to,” noted Wothe.  “It also have me a goal to focus on and helped me to meet so many new people.”
