Barnesville senior Damian Camperud participated in football and track and field for the Trojans.  He says getting his first sack in football and throwing a PR in discus at the Hawley Invitational are among his favorite sports memories.

“Being involved in sports has helped me get out more and work out,” acknowledged Camperud.  “I’ve also made lots of friends due to my personality.”

Football Coach Bryan Strand said, “Damian came back out for football this past year and was a contributor on the defensive line.  He’s a great kid with great work ethic and attitude.  It was fun seeing him back with us for his senior year.”

He is undecided on a college, but does want to compete in track collegiately and plans on pursing a degree in Physical Therapy.  Graphic Design class has been his favorite high school subject.

As for losing out on the spring track season, “I’ve been bummed, but the ways I’ve dealt with it is by staying on schedule with my work outs.  When it’s nice out, I go out and throw my shot put a couple of times.”

“Damian has been a solid rock in our team's throwing department for the past few years,” said Head Track and Field Coach Nic Paur. “Each year he has worked to improve on his form in shot put and discus. His work ethic has been outstanding in the off season getting in the weight room and even joining football this past season to become a more rounded athlete. Damians' goal this season was to challenge the current school record in shot put as he inched his way closer to it the last couple of years. Damian will be missed by his fellow track and field team mates for his personality but also his ability to compete at a high level.”

A favorite quote comes from former NFL running back Herschel Walker who said, “If you train hard, you’ll not only be hard, you’ll be hard to beat.”
