New York Mills senior Mikayla Geiser has been a three-sport athlete for the Eagles, participating in volleyball, basketball and softball.  In addition to her athletic prowess, Geiser enjoyed Math as her favorite high school subject.  It is no surprise then that she has decided to major in Business Management and Finance at Minnesota State University – Moorhead.

Geiser lists getting to participate in the state softball tournament as her top sports memory.

Her basketball and softball coach, Bryan Dunrud, says this about Mikayla, “Mikayla is an extremely smart basketball player that used her intelligence to give her an edge on her opponents. Mikayla could always be depended on to work hard and was a total team player that would accept any role to make the team better. In softball, Mikayla mainly played 2nd base and 1st base where she was going to be asked to take on a bigger role this season. Mikayla's real strength in softball was her bat and she had been playing dome ball this winter and was ready to be an impact bat in the lineup.”

“Being in sports has helped me to not only stay active but has taught me important life skills,” said Geiser.  “Sports have taught me how to be a leader, to have good sportsmanship, and good character.  I have also created many bonds through playing sports.”

As for the cancellation of spring sports, Geiser, like most seniors, has struggled with what has happened.  “It has been tough thinking that our senior season will never get to happen, but I just look back on all the memories I have created in past years.  I try to focus on all the bonds and memories I have created and try and stay positive.”

Geiser shared this advice to underclassmen, “Make the most of the time you have, you never know when it will be over.  Have fun with your teammates and make memories.  Those are the moments you will remember.  Never stop giving it your all, your time will go faster than you think.”
