Fergus Falls senior Madeline Godwin is missing out on her spring softball season due to the Coronavirus pandemic, which she says has been, “really tough.  I’m not going to lie, but my team has stayed in touch.”  Godwin will be attending the University of North Dakota to pursue a Nursing degree.

Even though she is unable to compete in softball her senior year, Maddy says her top sports memory is happening during this season, “Because our season was cancelled, we had a pet softball named Dudley that we each took care of.  It was an awesome bonding experience and we all loved taking care of our ‘baby’.”

Godwin enjoyed Social Studies and Science as her favorite school subjects.

“Being involved in sports has made me a better leader and I have made so many friends through my sports career,” stated Godwin.

Fergus Falls Softball Coaches Lisa Truax and Devonie Smith said, “Maddy Godwin has great leadership not only on the field but off the field in her academics, involvement in fine arts and NHS to name a few. She is dedicated and passionate about the things she is involved in.  On the field and in the gym, Maddy brings her best.  Her work ethic allows her to push herself and her teammates to be their best, these are characteristics we look for in a leadership role and Maddy has definitely been a leader for our program.  Maddy has a great future ahead of her with her hard work, passion and drive to be the best she can be in all areas of life. It has been an honor to coach her spunky personality and I can’t wait to see everything she accomplishes.  We’ve enjoyed Maddy being part of our program and we’re lucky to call her family!”

Her favorite quote comes from NBA superstar Kevin Durant who said, “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard,”

Godwin also has this advice to underclassmen, “Enjoy every moment of high school.  Nothing is guaranteed so live life to the fullest.”
