Amelia Barry, a senior at Ashby high school, participated in volleyball and softball for the Arrows.  Her top sports moment came when delivered a walk-off hit to beat Brandon-Evansville at the first home game of her sophomore year.  Her favorite school subjects are any Science or Math classes.

Her softball coach, Autumn Flickinger described Amelia this way, “Though she be small, she is mighty! Amelia is a great leader who is encouraging, positive, hard-working and approachable. Amelia was also voted as a captain this year. Amelia is someone you want on your team and beside you to go to battle in a game with. She aims to make everyone better on and off the field. Amelia is a very special young woman that I wish all the best to her future endeavors!”

“Being involved in sports has allowed me to build skills to work with others, which is also helpful in so many other areas of life,” said Barry.  “Softball has always been my favorite sport, so it has been hard not being able to play one last season of it.  Along with that, I miss seeing my classmates every day.  Despite the hardships, it’s been my priority to have a positive mindset throughout this time.  I approach this as a learning experience to get ready for the independence that comes with college and I am embracing every extra opportunity that I get to spend with my family before heading off to college.  Of course, not everything is going as planned, but I am just thankful for all the measure that have been taken to keep my family, community, as well as the rest of Minnesota, safe.”

Barry will be attending NDSU in the fall to pursue a degree in Nursing and ultimately become a Nurse Practitioner.  Right now she is specifically interested in the fields of dermatology and oncology.

Volleyball Coach Hayley Stevens said, "Amelia was a mediator and communicator she did a great job to keeping the talking going always. During games and practices. Encouraging others to do the same."

Her favorite quote comes from former President Barack Obama who said, “Keep exploring.  Keep dreaming.  Keep asking way.  Don’t settle for what you already know.  Never stop believing in the power of your ideas, your imagination, your hard work, to change the world.”
