Winning back-to-back Class A State Softball titles in 2017 and 2018 and pitching a no-hitter in the Section finals in 2019 are top sports highlights for New York Mills senior Tiffany Thompson.  In addition to being a part of the very successful softball program, Thompson participated in volleyball, basketball and trap shooting at Mills.

“Those softball titles and the no-hitter are definitely my top sports memories,” related Thompson.  “Sports have taught me so many lessons and have made me the person I am today.  They have also taught me to enjoy every moment on the court or field because you never know when it will be taken away.  My message to underclassmen is to never take a sports season for granted.  Cherish all the long bus rides, games and practices.”

“Tiffany is an extremely gifted well-rounded athlete,” stated Head Softball and Girls Basketball Head Coach Bryan Dunrud. “Tiffany is a team first player that leads by example, shows up early to practice and stays late. She also has incredible work ethic, is dependable, always gives her best, and is a program builder for everyone from youth levels to varsity levels. Tiffany was an outstanding basketball player that would have had a 1,000 points over her career if not for her injury on January 2nd, but she did not let that drag her down and has worked extremely hard in rehab in hopes of playing softball this spring and to also ready herself for her collegiate softball career at St. Ben's. In softball, Tiffany once again played wherever she was asked to play in relation to the supporting cast around her. Tiffany is an All-State softball player both as a catcher and pitcher, and she also played an outstanding centerfield prior to switching positions to catcher and pitcher. Tiffany was one of the best pitchers and hitters in Class A softball last season, and before her injury she played fall ball and winter ball and was ready to be one of the best hitters and pitchers in the state. Tiffany hits for power, average, has good speed, to go along with a great glove and arm. Tiffany has been an intricate part of our softball seasons success and has a bright collegiate future ahead of her.”

Thompson will be attending the College of Saint Benedict where she will major in Exercise Science and play softball.  Her favorite high school classes were Math and History.

“Tiffany is the dream player for any coach to have on their team,” commented Volleyball Head Coach Tammy Olson.  “She is able to play almost every position and does without batting an eye.  She never questions your decisions and just puts in 110% at whatever you tell her to do.  One of our saying for our team is “Play Big” and Tiffany is a great example of this at only 5’6” she is quick and jumps out of the gym.  This allowed her to play outside, right side and middle hitter for me.  Her athletic ability and anticipation made her a huge asset to our defense by touching many balls with her block.  This year she became one of our main passers and defensive players and stepped in with no hesitation.  Her positive attitude and big smile will be missed.”

As for how she is dealing with no school or softball this spring, “I have been playing catch and batting with other teammates, and doing a lot of things outside.”
