Ellie Johnson is a senior at Pelican Rapids High School.  Do due the cancellation of spring sports in Minnesota, her high school career was cut short.  She competed in both golf and cross country for the Vikings through her high school years.

“Having my teammates come and support me my junior year at the state golf tournament is a top sports memory for me,” said Johnson.

Pelican Rapids Head Golf Coach Brian Evenson says, “Ellie is a very friendly, coachable, hardworking and focused young lady. 2020 would have been her 6th year in golf where she has earned 4 letters, 2 All Conference awards, 4 advancements to Section, and 2 trips to State. She has been a team captain for two years. Her game continued to improve each year. She would have been a favorite to earn another All Conference award, advancement to Section and a third trip to State if we could have had a 2020 season.”

Ellie plans on attending Minnesota State University – Moorhead, where she will compete on the golf team and will major in Nursing.  Her favorite subject in school is Science.

“Sports have taught me responsibility and motivation,” said Johnson.  “Being in sports has showed me that working hard pays off.  As for not being able to be in school or compete in golf this spring, honestly, I have been trying not to think much about it.  I still go to the course and play and I know I will be competing next year so that helps ease my mind.”

“Ellie has a solid work ethic and the desire to improve with every workout,” noted Cross Country Coach Steve Maresh.  “You will never find Ellie complaining about anything.  In fact, you have to watch her closely as she has the tendency to run with injuries she should not be running with.  She is a quiet leader on the team who leads by example.”

“An influential person for me has been John Eidsness, one of my golf coaches.  He has helped me through troubling times in my golf career and has stuck by my side and given me advice when I need it the most,” added Johnson.
