D-G-F senior Cade Dawson ran cross country and track and field for the Rebels and plans on continuing to compete in both sports at the collegiate level when he attends Concordia College in Moorhead where he will major in Computer Science.

“One of my favorite memories of all time was when our team qualified in the State True Team meet my junior year of track,” shared Dawson.  “It was amazing to see all of the competition there and how far we had really come as a team to get where we were at and to see how successful we had become.”

His Coach, Mike Anderson, had this to say about Dawson, “Cade has been a multi-sport athlete at DGF throughout his entire athletic career.  He has been a captain in both the track and field program and cross country, demonstrating skills as a leader, role model, and an academically gifted student-athlete.  This spring Cade would have been one of the top middle distance runners in Section 8A participating in everything from the 400 meters to the 1600 meters, including being a major part of two relay teams.  In the past, he has won Heart O' Lakes All-Conference honors and competed in the Class AA State True Team championships last year.  His work ethic, competitiveness, and sportsmanship as a Rebel athlete will be missed.”

“This spring I have been running every day to train for my future plans in the fall,” said Dawson.  “I’ve also been doing some strength work to increase my strength over the spring and summer.  Sports have been a way to really let go of everything that has been holding me back.  I realized that it’s not only about the competition that you go against, but it’s also about the team that you compete with.  I learned that sports defines more than just one individual athlete, it defines a family.”

A word advice from Cade to the underclassmen at D-G-F, “take every opportunity that you get to put yourself out there, because you never know when that opportunity might be your last.”
