Battle Lake teacher and Head Volleyball Coach Jennifer Roisum, was elected as the next Vice President of the Minnesota State High School Coaches Association by MSHSCA members.

Jennifer was one of four candidates for the position. She will begin her 4 year term at the MSHSCA Board meeting in June.

Roisum was a multi-sport standout at Underwood High School, participating in volleyball, basketball and track and field.  She went on to excel at NDSU, earning first team All-American status in volleyball her senior year and graduating with a degree in Social Studies and History Education.

“Sports have always been a part of my life,” said Roisum.  “Growing up in rural Minnesota I was always playing something.  My two older brothers kept me busy and encouraged my competitive nature through playing catch, football, or basketball. Attending Underwood Public School allowed me to be a three sport athlete where I was fortunate enough to experience success in each of my sports.  I watched my brothers compete in both high school athletics and college athletics which motivated me to want to continue my athlete career after high school.”

After graduation Jenny began her first teaching and coaching position in Battle Lake where she has been for the past 16 years.  Her volleyball teams have earned multiple conference titles and she has had four players go on to compete at the college level.  She also started the local Junior Olympic Volleyball program and has had the opportunity to coach her oldest son’s elementary basketball team.

“Athletics have been an important part of my life,” concluded Roisum.  “They have helped me develop confidence, leadership skills, how to be a team player and organizational skills.  One of my favorite aspects of coaching is being able to help develop young women of character.  Not just volleyball players but young women who are strong and confident.  I also enjoy spreading my love of sports, fitness, and of course volleyball.”
