The Fergus Falls boys’ hockey team held their awards banquet over Zoom on Wednesday night.  “This was a great way to wrap up our season and honor all of our players,” said Head Coach Mike Donaghue.  “It was a season full of challenges and they continued right through trying to schedule our banquet!”

Michael DeBrito and Kaden Peterson were All-Conference selections in the Central Lakes Conference, while Isaac Young, Cole Zierden and Ben Swanson with All-Conference honorable mention choices.  Peterson was also a CLC Scholar Athlete.  DeBrito, Peterson, Zierden and Young were Section 6A Honorable Mention selections.  Peterson, DeBrito and Ian Richards served as team captains.

Swanson and DeBrito shared the Most Inspirational award and Carter Thielke was named the Most Improved Varsity player.

Kaden Peterson was named the Outstanding Senior, received the Roger Johnson Award and was the recipient of the Lee Franklin Scholarship award.  The Lee Franklin Scholarship Award has been presented for the last 23 years.  The Hobey Baker Character Award went to Hayden Shol.

Matthew Niblock was the JV MVP and the JV Most Improved Player honor was shared by Ethan Menge and Cole Wentworth.

“The team showed tremendous growth throughout the season as evidenced from an early season 10-0 loss to Sartell and rebounding with a 7-2 win in our second meeting,” stated Donaghue.  “We played a tough game against River Lakes in a 1-0 OT playoff loss.  There were not many chances by either team that night and River Lakes found a way at the end.”

Several Otters also excelled in the classroom.  Cole Zierden, Andrew Johnson, Isaac Johnson, Noah Tarczon, Sterling Andrews, Ben Swanson, Maveric Kalenberg, Cole Wentworth, Ian Richards, Kaden Peterson and Matthew Niblock were all A Honor Roll students, while Michael DeBrito, Isaac Young, Owen Babolian and Hayden Shol were B Honor Roll students.
