Spring has Arrived, but Sports Still on Hold

The abrupt ending to the winter sports season at all levels of play has left players, coaches, fans and even us reporters and broadcasters, reeling.

We were denied the opportunity of watching teams perform in the most important games of the season and certainly missed out on some very memorable and heroic moments that would have created great memories for years to come.

With the spring sports canceled at the collegiate level, the start of the Major League Baseball season interrupted for a yet undetermined amount of time, and the cancellation of the 2020 Olympic Games, we are living in a world of uncertainty regarding many things.  In the large scope of life, sports is not of utmost importance, however, to the athletes and coaches who dedicate so much time and effort into becoming the best they can be in their particular sport, and to the fans who celebrate the achievements of their favorite teams and athletes while enjoying such exhilarating entertainment, the loss of competitive sports at all levels is frustrating, if not downright depressing.

As the world has taken measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, we look to the hope of life returning to some form of normalcy sooner rather than later.  It is with this hope that I am going to start running some Spring Sports Previews that some of the coaches have been supplying to me, as they also have hope that they will have some semblance of a season this Spring.

In the meantime, stay safe, follow the guidelines set forth by the government and health officials who are fighting this virus on the front lines, pray for them and each other, and learn to appreciate some down time, a slower pace, and the benefits to the soul that come from some quiet time and some together time.  This too shall pass.  Persevere and have faith!
