The West Central Area Knights won the South Sub-Section 6A championship 68-47 over Hancock on Monday Night at Concordia Memorial Auditorium and will play for a state birth vs Henning on Thursday night at 7 pm back at Concordia.

The Knights led 37-21 at halftime.  "I was proud of the way we came out and took care of business from the start again tonight," said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter.  "We got a lead early and then weathered the storm midway through the second half. We always know basketball is a game of runs and Hancock is a scrappy team that we knew would try to make a run. Hats off to them for a very good season."

The Knights hit 22-48 shots for 46% and hit 10-27 threes for 37%.  The Knights were stellar once again from the line hitting 14-16 free throws for 88%.  "That's big in games like these," said Hunter.

Hancock hit 18-50 for 36% but the Knights defense held them to only 4-22 from the 3-point line. The Owls hit 7-11 free throws.  The rebounding battle was pretty even with the Knights having a slight 32-30 edge.  The Owls turned the ball over 10 times and the Knights 13.

Leaders for the Knights were Grant Beuckens with 18 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists; Jack VanKempen with 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 steals; Gage Staples 13 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals; Tate Christenson with 9 points, 4 assists and 2 rebounds; Jacob Bright with 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists; Brady Reeve with 5 points and 3 rebounds; Cole Anderson with 2 points and an assist; Nathaniel Junker 2 points; and Ryder Staples contributed 3 rebounds and 2 steals.

Scoring for the Owls were Matt Thompson with 20, Preston Rolhoff with 10, Daniel Milander with 9, Kody Berget 3, Colton Crowell 2, Brandon Kellenberger 2, and Adam Shaw 1.

The Knights are 27-2 on the season while Hancock finished 20-9.  West Central Area will face Henning in the Section 6A championship game on Thursday at 7:00pm at Conncordia College in Moorhead.
