Fergus Falls advanced to the Semi-Finals of Section 8AA boys basketball with a 62-45 win over Warroad Saturday afternoon at Concordia College.

Warroad, Minnesota may be the home of Marvin Windows, Christian Brothers hockey sticks, and "Hockey Town USA", but they also can play basketball, as the plucky Warriors boys basketball team gave Fergus Falls a much tougher game than the final score might indicate.

Gaining the opening tip, the Otters got on the scoreboard immediately as Chase Fazio scored inside, and then Dominic Aguilar added a second basket seconds later and it was a quick 4-0 Fergus Falls lead. After Warroad got on the board with a pair of free-throws from Dylan Fox, Aguilar added a pair of floaters in the lane and it was 10-4. Abel Aho nailed a 3-pointer off the bench at the 13:30 mark to make it a 13-6 Otter lead. After the Warriors cut the lead to 13-10, an 8-0 Otter run made it 21-10 halfway through the opening half. A pair of treys from Ethan Olson and another from Aguilar gave the Otters a 14-point lead making it 30-16 with just over five minutes to go in the half. Warroad answered with an 11-0 run of their own to pull within three, 30-27, at the 1:15 mark. An Aguilar basket in the final minute made it a 32-27 half-time lead for Fergus Falls.

Fergus Falls hit on 12-of-28 field goals in the opening half and were led by Aguilar's 11 points and 6 from Olson. Warroad received 7 points each from Fox and Kyle Thompson. The Warriors connected on 10 of their 19 shots from the floor.

Fergus Falls began the second half with a 10-0 run to lead 42-27, and following a Warroad free-throw, added another run of eight straight to increase the lead to 50-28 with 10:05 to go. The Otters received a scare with 2:40 remaining, as Dominic Aguilar went to the floor after scoring inside, remaining there for several moments after sustaining a possible injury, but walked off the floor to the bench on his own.

Aguilar led the Otters in scoring with 16 points, followed by Olson (11), Fazio (10), and Brock Kotschevar (7). Fergus Falls shot 45% (24-53) from the floor, and made 6-of-11 at the line. The Warriors made 14-of-37 field goals (38%), and 14-of-18 free-throws. They were led on the scoreboard by Cole Spenst (13), Fox (9), and Evan Grover (9).

Fergus Falls advances to the semi-finals of Section 8AA on Wednesday at 7:45 p.m., and will play Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton. The Rebels advanced with a 57-47 win over Pelican Rapids. Perham and East Grand Forks meet in the other semi-final at 6:00pm. The winners meet on Friday at 7:00pm for the title and state tourney berth. All games at Concordia College in Moorhead.
