Hornets Claim Section 6A Title with Win Over WCA

Ellie Dague poured in 32 points, making 10-of-10 free throws on the night and leading the Henning Hornets to a 56-50 win over West Central Area in the Section 6A Girls Basketball Championship game at UM-Morris on Friday night.

Henning took a 10-6 lead to start the game but fell behind 22-10 when West Central Area went on a 16 point run that featured four 3's, two of them from Kaylyn Ulrich, who scored all 14 of her points in the first half.  Henning fought back to within six at the half, trailing 32-26.

The Hornets scrapped their way back into the lead in the second half and then finished strong on the free throw line, making 15-of-17 foul shots in the second half and 18-of-21 in the game.  Sydney Eckhoff scored 7 points and had a team high 10 rebounds for Henning, and Megan Weber added 7 points.

For West Central Area, Lexi Bright contributed 17 points and 3 assists.

Henning won the battle of the boards, 31-18.

The Hornets will open play at the Class A State Tournament on Thursday at Maturi Pavillion on the U of M campus, with the time and opponent to be determined this weekend when the coaches complete the tournament seeding.
