Behind a 34 point second half the Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball Team scored a comeback 49-45 victory over the Brandon-Evansville Chargers.  The Arrows found themselves trailing 28-15 at halftime as the Chargers started the game making a high percentage of their shot attempts.

Arrow guard Hunter Norby led all scorers with a quiet 16 point effort.  Jacob Cook reached double figures with 13 points.  Ashton Ecker made two big transition layups to give the Arrows a lead midway through the second half.  Jaden Norby chased down 11 rebounds.  Jaden and Noah Johnson each went 2 for 2 from the free throw line at the end to seal the victory.  Torin Olson connected for 6 points and Bobby Anderson and Derrek Bartz provided quality minutes off the bench.

‘Our defensive energy improved in the second half,” reported Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “The boys relaxed a bit offensively and started making some shots.  It was a hotly contested game played by two scrappy teams in front of a packed house.”

Brandon-Evansville Head Coach Trent Hintermeister said, "This game was a tale of two halves. We did a nice job in the 1st half winning the rebounding battle and getting the 50/50 balls. The opposite happened in the 2nd half and hats off to Ashby for making that happen.  I've said it all year, this subsection is an absolute grinder. Nothing is easy, and anything can happen. I look forward to following the remainder of the section 6A tournament."

Coach Hintermeister continued, "thank you to our wonderful seniors who've done so much for our program. Charger basketball is moving in the right direction because of Andrew Johnson, Andrew Perrin, Jesse Perleberg, Keagan Schiele, Marshall Riedel, Sam Fuller, Seth Stelzer, Tanner Bitzan, and Tony Schaffran. These guys were great teammates, are fantastic role models, and will only continue to grow as leaders. Moving forward, it will be fun to watch Kobe Rieland, Brian Lauthen, Titus Fuller, and Tyler Bitzan step into bigger roles for us this summer and next season. We will be young and inexperienced next year, but I'm confident in our next group of players thanks to the path our seniors have laid for them."

Ashby (19-8) will play West Central Area (25-2) at 1:00pm Saturday at UM-Morris in a Section 6A quarterfinal contest.
