Sartell-St. Stephen scored 491 points to edge out Alexandria (484) for the Section 5A Boys Swimming and Diving Team championship on Saturday at UM-Morris.  Melrose-Sauk centre was third with 305 points, followed by Bemidji with 231, Park Rapids Area with 179, Fergus Falls with 168, Detroit Lakes with 128, Perham-New York Mills with 81, Thief River Falls with 71 and Morris Area with 45.  The Otters did not qualify any individuals or relay teams for the Class A State Meet.

“Good effort by the boys today,” commented Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “The goal is always to get kids to the state meet.  We came close in a few events and especially in the 400 free relay to miss out by .39 seconds stings quite a bit.  That relay gave everything they had and we just came up a little short.  Will Pawlowski had a terrific day in his individual events, swimming lifetime best times in both.  Sean Edman knew what he had to do in both of his events to qualify for state and he went after it, it just wasn't quite enough, unfortunately.  Congratulations to the boys on a good season.  They improved so much during the year.”
