Hillcrest Lutheran Academy led by just two points, 30-28, at the half on Friday night, however, the Comets took control with their defense in the second half and got hot in the paint to outscore Lake Park-Audubon 45-26 over the final 18 minutes, defeating the Raiders by the score of 75-54.

“A great night for our boys, especially for our seniors,” commented Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “They played inspired defense - sometimes a little too inspired as we sent Lake Park to the free throw line 29 times - but inspired nonetheless. Our guys decided that they were going to dictate the posture of the game, especially in the second half.

After coming off of an overtime loss to Ortonville and a late night coming home, it was so good for us to be able to play a lot of guys tonight against the Raiders. Ten guys play at least 9 minutes. After settling for a lot of threes in the first half, I thought we did a lot better job of being patient but aggressive. We shot 4-9 from 3 in the second half but hit on 16 of 20 shots basically in the paint.  I'm very proud of how our guys stepped up and played with some guts after losing a tough one at Ortonville. They continue to impress me with their passion for the game and their love for each other.”

Micah Foss and Sam Brumfield each scored 19 points to lead the Comets with Brumfield hitting 9-of-11 shots from the field.  They were joined in double figures by Thomas Zwiers with 14 and Evan Gould with 10.  Zwiers completed a double-double with 12 rebounds and also added 3 steals and 2 assists.  Foss had a team high 5 steals, while dishing out 2 assists and snaring 5 rebounds.  Gould and Ethan Ness led the team with 4 assists apiece.

Hillcrest blistered the nets for 60.4% (32-53) shooting for the night, making 9-of-23 (39%) from beyond the arc.

Cody Wolfswinkel and Tyler Bjerke led LPA with 17 points each.

Hillcrest (8-15) will host Hancock in their regular season finale on Monday night.
