The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team traveled to Waubun for a playin game in Section 6A on Friday night, losing to the Thunderbirds by the final score of 79-45.

“We struggled to keep them in front of us and that allowed them to take high percentage shots,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “All, but two, of their field goals came from inside the lane.  The girls worked hard, but just couldn’t seem to get into any kind of rhythm.”

Mackenzie Foss led the Comets with 21 points, including 8-of-9 free throws, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 8 steals.  Anna Rasmussen added 9 points, Molly McGuire had 6 and Audra Ewan added 3 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.  Madi Foss contributed 3 points and 3 steals.

“This has been such a fun season and I’m so proud of this team,” added Coach Clark. “They have been a joy to coach. A big thanks to our seniors Molly McGuire and Anna Rasmussen. They have been great leaders for our program and we are really going to miss them next year!”

Hillcrest finishes their season with a record of 4-22.

Mahnomen/Waubun will play at second-seeded Underwood on Thursday night.
