The Section 6A tournament started with a convincing win on Tuesday as BHVPP took care of Barnesville in the Quarterfinals and went on to post wins over New York Mills and West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville as they completed back-to-back Section championships.

Against Barnesville, David Revering sparked the postseason with a pin.  Deagen Captain earned a major decision.  Aiden Larson picked up a decision and Reese Thompson nailed down a fall for the 19-0 lead.  Justin Koehn and Matt Mensinger added forfeits while Jason Koehn snared the fall and Brock Peterson won a wild 19-18 decision to put the match at 40-0.  Barnesville picked up the win at 160 but the major decision defeat officially secured the victory for the Raiders.  Hunter Dean and Carter Rokes added forfeits in front of a decision from Gideon ErvastiJaden Finck grabbed a pin and Craig Orlando added a forfeit to finalize the dual at 67-4.

The Semifinals matched us against the New York Mills Eagles.  Revering started the Raiders quickly with a pin.  Captain added a forfeit and Larson a pin for the 18-0 lead.  The Eagles would battle to win four of the next five matches, with the exception of a decision from Jason Koehn, to bring the score to 24-21 NYM with six matches to go.  However, the top of the lineup took care of business.  Mason Schroeder pinned his opponent and the Raiders never looked back.  Dean added a decision.  Rokes and Ervasti pinned their opponents to put the dual out of reach.  Finck added a late comeback decision and the Eagles forfeited to Orlando to advance the Raiders to the Championship with a 51-24 victory.

West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville would come out on top of Ottertail Central in the other semifinal with a 34-33 victory setting up for a Knights-Raiders rematch that was a wild dual in early January.  Once again, Revering got the Raiders going with a win.  This time it was a major decision.  Captain avenged his January loss with a major decision before the Knights swung the 120-pound match in their favor to make it 8-3.  Thompson grabbed the momentum back with a late third period comeback as he hit a granby to change a 4-2 deficit into a 7-4 decision.  Justin Koehn put the BHVPP crowd and bench into a frenzy as he was down 8-2 in the second period when he pounced on his opportunity.  He shot, created a flurry and found a half nelson for the pin that had the gym erupt as we extended the lead out to 17-3.  Big brother Jason continued the fun with great transitions earning a decision over his state ranked opponent for the 20-3 lead.  The Knights claimed a pin a 145 before making a move at 152 to try to get back into the match.  Peterson had other ideas as his smaller opponent tied up and Brock gave him a ride from his feet to his back putting him away at 1:07 making the dual 26-9.  The Knights move made up a point from the previous meeting as they earned a tech fall at 160.  They would claim victory at the next two weights too with a major decision and a decision to get as close as 26-21 with three weights to go.  Ervasti went up to 195 coming away with a major decision and Finck’s late third period throw earned the decision to secure the second straight Section 6A Championship for the Raiders.  With the dual already over, the Knights forfeited to Orlando and the final score was 39-21.   There were a lot of matches that could have gone either way.  The first time we won four of the bottom six weights and this time we won five of the bottom six weights to really put momentum on our side and confidence in our wrestlers.  Justin and Brock’s pins were huge and having the undefeated anchor on top puts pressure on the opponents to be up by more than six before we get to heavyweight.  Fortunately for us, the duals have been over before we get to Craig.  Now he is rested and ready to leave his mark the next two weekends. BHVPP will compete in the Class A State tournament at the Xcel Energy Center on Thursday, February 27th.  However, next up is the individual section at Wadena this Saturday February 22nd.    The individual match results were as followed:
