Pelican Rapids defeated Breckenridge by a score of 69-58 in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference boys’ basketball game on Friday night in Pelican Rapids. The Cowboys led 33-30 at halftime.

Logan Fahje led all scorers with 23 points.  McHale Korf added 16 and Logan Petznick had 9 for the Vikings.

“We fell behind by ten in the first half but went on a little run right before halftime to only trail by three at the break,” noted Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “Our defensive intensity improved in the second half which lead to a couple of big steals that seemed to bring the momentum to our side with about ten minutes left in the game. This was a big game for our guys and we are proud of the effort we came out with in the second half to come away with the win.

Leading scorers for the Cowboys were Cooper Yaggie with 21, Adam Ohm with 12, and Jonah Christensen with 11. Leading rebounders were Christensen with 7 and Tyson Piechowski with 5. Christensen added 5 assists and Jr Perez and Piechowski added 4 each.

"This was a high intensity game and a great set up for playoff basketball,” commented Breckenridge Assistant Coach Derek Grahn. “We came up a bit short against a very good Pelican team but we made a lot of progress in terms of effort on the defensive end. We have a week off before we pick up play next Thursday at home against Hawley."

Pelican Rapids (16-7, 7-4 HOL) will host Mahnomen/Waubun on Tuesday.

Breckenridge is now 12-11 overall and 5-6 in the HOL.
