The Hillcrest girls’ basketball team overcame a 27-22 halftime deficit in Battle Lake on Thursday night on the way to a 56-45 Little Eight Conference victory.

“I’m so proud of how well the girls played together tonight,” said Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “Everyone contributed to this win in some way or another. The girls played really tough defense and rebounded well all night. Our guards applied great pressure and we were able to force some turnovers that led to easy buckets. Offensively, we moved the ball well and we were able to get high percentage shots.”

The lady Comets were led by Mackenzie Foss (26 points, 12-16 FT, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 7 steals), Molly McGuire (14 points, 6 rebounds), Cassy Twedt (6 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals) and Anna Rasmussen (2 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists).

“Mackenzie Foss has a great game on both ends of the floor,” noted Coach Clark. “She was really disruptive on defense and did a nice job on offense knowing when to take the shot herself or pass it out to an open teammate.  Molly McGuire had one of her best games tonight. She shot the ball well on offense and defensively, she really controlled the paint.”

Battle Lake was led by Grace Van Erp and Tessa Kortlever with 12 and 10 points, respectively.

Battle Lake (7-16, 5-7 LEC) will travel to Bertha for their regular season finale on Thursday night.

Hillcrest (2-20) earned their first conference win in their final Little Eight game.  The lady Comets will host Lake Park-Audubon on Saturday at 3:00pm.
