The Ashby Arrows Boys Basketball Team defeated the Battle Lake Battlers 61-35 on Friday night.  Ashby got off to a quick start in the game and led 36-16 at halftime.

The Arrows shot 53% (26/49) overall from the field including 33% (6/18) from behind the three point line.  Leading scorers for the Arrows with 16 points each were Jaden Norby (16 pts, 10 reb, 3 ast, 7 stl) and Jacob Cook (16 pts, 5 reb 1 ast, 1 stl).  Derrek Bartz (9 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast) and Hunter Norby (9 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast, 2 stl) were close to double figures.  Other contributions came from Torin Olson (7pts, 2 reb, 2 ast, 3 stl), Ashton Ecker (4 pts, 5 reb, 4 ast), Noah Johnson (1 reb, 1 ast) and Bobby Anderson.

“The boys played great team defense again tonight giving up 35 points after allowing 34 last night,” reported Ashby Head Coach John Holsten.  “The balanced scoring was also good to see and we received outstanding play from the bench.”

The victory keeps the Arrows in a first place tie with Parkers Prairie in the Little Eight Conference standings at 9-1.  Their overall record improves to 13-7.  Next Tuesday they travel to Brandon to take on the Chargers.

Riley Leabo scored 25 of the 35 Battle Lake points.

“We didn’t show up tonight and Ashby never wavered,” said Battle Lake Head Coach C.J. Peeters.  “We were playing some good basketball but tonight was not that.  Riley played well, but we can’t win games with one guy.  We really struggled in every facet of the game.”

Battle Lake (5-11) will host Rothsay on Tuesday night.
