Jack VanKempen had a double double with 16 points and 11 rebounds and Gage Staples poured in 22 points along with 9 rebounds to lead the West Central Area Knights to a 75-51 win over the Wheaton Warriors. The Knights made 26-49 shots for 53% and 19-26 from the free throw line for 73%. They hit four 3's. The Warriors made 17-47 shots for 36% and hit nine 3's. They were 8-17 from the free throw line.
"We had a big advantage inside tonight and as a team we had numerous good passes to take advantage of that", said Knight Coach Kraig Hunter. "Wheaton has been playing well and is a team that shoots the ball well. They controlled the pace in the first half as we only led 25-19, but we were able to control the pace in the second half scoring 50 points while holding them to 32."
The Knights dominated the rebounding battle 39-21. They had 9 turnovers to 13 for the Warriors.
Ryder Staples added 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals; Brady Reeve had 8 points and 5 rebounds; Jacob Bright had 7 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals; Tate Christenson had 4 points, 5 rebounds and a team high 7 assists; Grant Beuckens had 2 points, 4 steals, and 4 assists; Jacob Strunk scored 3 points, Xander Bontjes had 2. Cole Anderson had a rebound and an assist and Isaac Kreft had 2 rebounds.
Scoring for Wheaton was Matt Thielen with 24 points; Logan Birchem 7, Mike Franzese 6, Nick Lupkes 4, Clint Determan 4, Dylan Bainbridge 2, Grant Dawson 2, and Zach Braaten 2.
The Knights are now 17-2 and will travel to Norman County East on Tuesday night.
