The Rothsay Tigers jumped out to a big lead on Thursday night and went on to post a 53-40 Little Eight Conference girls’ basketball victory over Hillcrest Lutheran Academy.

“We came out flat tonight and Rothsay was able to get a 29-6 lead early in the first half,” reported Hillcrest Head Coach Hannah Clark. “We had poor rotation on defense and our passing decisions on offense led to turnovers and rushed shots. I thought we played a really good second half, out-scoring them by 10. Our ball movement and shot selection were much better and our defensive intensity really disrupted their offense. We crashed the O-boards really hard which led to a lot of second chance opportunities.”

Mackenzie Foss had a big night for the lady Comets, scoring 20 points, grabbing 6 rebounds, dishing out 4 assist and coming up with 4 steals.  Molly McGuire (12 points, 8 rebounds), Cassy Twedt (6 points 5 rebounds) and Anna Rasmussen (2 points, 6 rebounds) also contributed.

“Molly McGuire had some huge baskets in the second half that really swung the momentum our direction,” said Coach Clark. “I thought she directed our team really well on both ends of the floor and she worked hard on the glass.”

Jayna Gronewold and Kenadi Carlsrud led Rothsay with 17 and 15 points, respectively.  Abby Honer chipped in with 8 points.

Rothsay (8-14) will host Hancock on Monday night.

Hillcrest (1-19) is at home to Brandon-Evansville in a Little Eight Conference contest on Monday night.
