Grace VanErp led three lady Battlers in double digits on Tuesday night, scoring 21 points to help Battle Lake to a 64-44 victory over Rothsay.

“We had a really nice all-around game tonight in Rothsay and came away with a win,” said Battle Lake Head Coach David Marso.  “We were able to jump out to an early lead and never gave it up.  By halftime we had extended the lead to 36-17 with some solid defense and balanced offense.  In the second half, Jayna Gronwold stepped it up and scored 19 of her game high 23 points in the period.  I was really proud of the girls tonight and thought we played one of our best games of the season against a really good Rothsay team.”

Halie Johnson and Tessa Kortlever each scored 13 points for Battle Lake.

Jayna Gronewold led Rothsay with 23 points.  Jenna Fabre had 12 points and 6 rebounds, and Summer Wigdahl pulled down 7 rebounds.

“Battle Lake really outplayed us tonight,” commented Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier.  “Their pressure defense really took us out of our game.  They also really shot the ball well.  We will learn from this and move forward.”

The lady Battlers improved to 7-12 on the season.  They will play at Underwood on Thursday and then will play Wheaton/Herman-Norcross on Saturday afternoon at 3:00pm at UM-Morris.

Rothsay (7-14) will play Hillcrest in Fergus Falls on Thursday night.
