Wolverines Edge Lakers on Overtime Goal

Austyn Oothoudt scored in overtime to lift Wadena-Deer Creek to a 3-2 win over Detroit Lakes in a high school boys’ hockey game Thursday night at the Wadena Ice Arena.  Lleyten Pettit assisted on the game winning goal.

DL took a 1-0 lead at 8:37 of the opening period when Alex Bren scored from Drew Schwan and Jordan Fields.

Wadena-Deer Creek pulled even at 8:29 of the second period on a goal by John Oberg, assisted by Chase Domier.

A Domier goal at 10:56 of the third period gave the Wolverines a 2-1 lead.  Pettit also assisted on that goal.  At 13:46 the Lakers tied the game on a goal by Beau BoehneLevi Gross and Jake Green recorded assists on the goal.

Wolverines goalie Josh Dykhoff stopped 24 of the 26 shots he faced and Wadena-Deer Creek managed to put 20 shots on the Laker net.

Wadena-Deer Creek (7-14-1) will host Morris/Benson Area in their final home game of the regular season on Tuesday night.
