The Fergus Falls girls’ hockey team made a statement regarding the post season when they handed River Lakes a 5-2 loss on Thursday night.  The win gives the Otters a solid argument for the number two seed in the Section 6A playoffs.  There is no doubt Willmar is number one, but Fergus Falls has moved into the conversation concerning the number two seed.  Seeding will be decided by a Coaches vote on Monday and the playoffs will start on Thursday.

Fergus Falls scored three first period goals to get off to a fast start.  Maddie Hulter scored just 17 seconds into the game, assisted by Hope Goepferd.  A power play goal by Jade Zierden at 11:56 was setup by Gabby Brimhall and Piper Andrews.  River Lakes got on the board at 6:58 when Aubree McDonagh scored from Aubrey Griffin and Briella Cremers.  28 seconds later the Otters got that goal back when Ellie Andersen scored from Zierden and the Otters ended the first period with a 3-1 lead.

In the second period, an unassisted goal by Hulter increased the Fergus Falls lead to 4-1.  An unassisted power play goal by Kianna Roeske cut the Otters lead to 4-2 with just 31 seconds left in the period.

Andersen ended the scoring with 1:39 left in the third period with Brimhall assisting on the goal.

Fergus Falls had 29 shots on goal to 18 for River Lakes.  Lexi Metcalf was in goal for the Otters.
