The Hillcrest boys’ basketball team jumped out to a 44-17 halftime lead and maintained that lead throughout the second half as they recorded a 69-40 victory over Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley on Tuesday night in Fergus Falls.

“Sometimes it's nice to get a win no matter how messy you feel it is,” exclaimed Hillcrest Head Coach Ryan Garvin. “Clinton-Graceville played hard tonight and were very much ready to attack us. They are a well-coach group of young men and have a nice future.  Our squad played with a lot of great effort on the defensive end. We did give up more straight-line drives, but I think some of that was because of our being overly-aggressive up the line, away from the ball: we jumped some passes that we couldn't get to and played 4 on 5 on a handful of possessions in the half court. We're looking to become more disciplined in how we close out on and contain the ball. Turnovers, again, played a role in our opportunities on the offensive end. We finished with around 23 and largely because of our passing. Credit goes to CGB for their on-ball defensive and playing aggressively with their hands.”

Hillcrest made 50% (28-56) of their field goal attempts and made 41% (9-22) of their shots from beyond the arc.

Thomas Zwiers had a big night, scoring 18 points, pulling down 9 rebounds, dishing out 2 assists and coming up with 4 steals.  Micah Foss added 17 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists, and Evan Gould contributed 10 points, 6 assists and 2 steals.  Sam Brumfield added 9 points and Joel Quam had 7 points and 5 rebounds.

Nathan Moberg scored 13 points to lead the Wolverines.  Alex Sigler added 8 points.

Hillcrest (5-8) will play at Ashby on Friday.
